What is the Upper Limb Amputation Study?
The Upper Limb Amputation Study is a research project that is proposing to investigate the impact the loss of any part of the arm, from a single digit (finger, thumb) to loss of the whole arm including hand, wrist, elbow to shoulder, has had on quality of life and managing everyday normal activities. It also aims to assess whether small changes in prosthetics may increase use of any upper limb prosthesis or assist with donning and doffing any lower limb prosthetic that participants may also use.
Who might participate in the Study?
The team undertaking this research project are seeking to identify anyone with any upper limb amputation (finger to full arm), with or without an associated lower limb injury who may be willing to undertake an initial zoom call with two of the researchers to answer a basic set of questions surrounding their normal activities of daily living. If appropriate the zoom call would be followed up with a home visit or visit to a location close to the participants home or work environment so that a short, non-invasive test on upper limb function could be carried out. This visit would take approximately 1 hour.
